Graham’s LBV Bicentenary Edition

W & J Graham’s is renowned the world over for its fine Port wines. To commemorate its 200th year in 2020, Graham’s released a bicentenary edition of 2015 late bottled vintage Port. This special product from a legendary brand demanded a beautiful and celebratory package, and the Graham’s team chose us to develop the design.

While the bottle and label shapes were determined by brand standards, we focused on elegant details to frame the typography. Filigree elements embossed into the rich paper stock echo wrought-iron balconies on the finest old houses in Portugal. The special-edition gift boxes — inspired by the marbled endpapers of old books in the company’s museum — are truly magnificent. We invited a paper artist to create one-of-a-kind designs using a centuries-old marbling technique, to reflect the heritage and craftsmanship of the Graham’s brand. With gold accents and textured paper, the boxes present a tactile, elevated experience that pays homage to Graham’s and its superior winemaking tradition.

Graham’s LBV Bicentenary Edition was launched at the beginning of 2020, in the middle of a global pandemic. Thanks to what the client calls a “truly great and exciting design,” the packaging was well received and the company saw an increase in sales throughout the year.
